Wholesale caskets, from Costco.com

Its one thing to buy a casket. I personally find them to be unnecessary. Why does it matter what the box you are put in looks like once you’re dead? YOU ARE IN THE GROUND. NO ONE CAN SEE YOU. I can understand maybe having a casket for the wake and funeral so all your loved ones can say goodbye to a body that looks nothing like the way it did in real life. But that’s a stretched out maybe.

Even more ridiculous is a buying a casket from Costco. Over the Internet.

My personal favorite is the Lady of Guadalupe Casket. 18 gauge steel. Ice blue crepe interior. Fancy smchmany appliqués.

Some useful info I found from the FAQ page:

Q: Why is Costco Wholesale selling caskets?A: As a service to our members.

Q: What is the sales policy/guarantee?

A: Costco.com will only accept a return of a casket due to freight or cosmetic damage from shipping. [this means that you can't do a test run to see if Aunt Tina will actually fit into the casket. You'll just have to stuff her in there.]

Q: Can you order a casket for preplanning purposes?

A: Yes, as long as the casket is being shipped to a member’s home or storage facility of choice. The order will ship within the stated delivery parameters on the site. However, due to regulations and restrictions, we cannot hold on to any orders for future delivery.

And the most important disclaimer:

THERE IS NO SCIENTIFIC OR OTHER EVIDENCE THAT ANY CASKET WITH A SEALING DEVICE WILL PRESERVE HUMAN REMAINS

classy.

Did you know that bodies nowadays take longer to decompose than bodies even 50 years ago. Something about us eating too many preservatives and such. Kinda freaky.

My husband & I were just having the same conversation yesterday about the ridiculousness of buying a casket from Costco. Gotta get that casket while you’re buying paper towels in bulk! There is something massively wrong with that.

The point is you can order a better casket from Costco at a cheaper price than at the funeral home. As you state it doesn’t matter what box they bury you in, so you may as well save several thousand dollars. You don’t buy the casket at the warehouse, it is shipped directly to your funeral home. More ridiculous is the prices most funeral homes charge grieving families for similar caskets!
