Observations from my summer abroad in Nicosia, Cyprus:

  1. You aren’t supposed to flush your toilet paper down the toilet. There are little trash cans next to every toilet, and you’re supposed to toss it in there. I often “forgot,” a.k.a. passively rebelled. I’m sorry, but I am not about to put my excrement-covered toilet paper in a community poo rag bucket. That screams germy diseased contamination…and not the good kind. There were some times when I really did forget, and usually it was because I was drunk.
  2. Steering wheels are on the right side of the car, they drive on the left side of the road, and the traffic light sequence is red-yellow-green-yellow-red. Needless to say, I perpetually walked up to my ride like I was trying to seize the driver’s seat, and I almost got run over like 5 times a day. I now get very nostalgic whenever I play Frogger.
  3. (more…)

My god. I never thought I would fall in love with Cyprus as much as I did. As the end of my trip approached, I was tempted to walk around wearing all black–I was mourning the death of my summer, the love of my life. All the people, either local or American, all the places, all the sites I saw, mind-blowing after mind-blowing experience…I’m holding onto these memories for dear life, desperate to never forget them, not ready to admit its over. I said before I left that I would probably come back a different person, but I had no idea how deeply my trip would affect me. Thank you to everyone who made it possible. Thank you to everyone who was a part of it. I’ll start writing detailed accounts of my trip as soon as the pain goes away.

I love my life.

so that boy nonsense wrapped up real quick, and ever since i’ve been having the time of my life. seriously. I DO NOT WANT TO GO HOME!!!!!! EVER!!! This country is like a fantasy land, and i’m the princess. i feel like i should be documenting my adventures daily, but i honestly can’t sacrifice my time here long enough to do it. i’m not worried about forgetting anything, though, and pretty soon all i’ll have will be my memories, so writing about this trip needs to be saved for back home. i do miss everyone, and in a perfect world, Oprah would pay for all of my friends and family to move to cyprus forever and ever amen. or she could at least fund another trip for me. i mean, i’m just sayin. its not like she’ll miss the cash.
